Introduction
Fuel injection systems are vital tools in reducing fuel consumption and cutting emissions. They are highly sought after and are therefore also important elements of development and further development work. Against this background, a well-known automotive supplier was looking for external assistance in producing documentation on these systems, especially after-sales manuals. They are used firstly by end customers (OEMs) as integration documentation and secondly the content of after-sales manuals is replicated in the respective OEM diagnosis, service and repair manuals.
Technical know-how, a convincing concept and indications of potential reductions were the key criteria on the basis of which the customer tasked IndustrieHansa with the documentation to accompany its development work.
Solution: System documentation and further development of this in close collaboration with the development team using a content management system with multi-client capability.
Puncture points
- Research on site (removal and installation of system components, research into images...)
- Description of the entire system and graphic representations using 3D data
- Detailed description of system components
- Production of diagnosis processes (nominal system values and operating statuses)
- List of error codes and production of a troubleshooting plan
- Description of test instructions (matrix for rectifying system errors)
- Incorporation of graphics, diagrams, tables, functional sequences
- Description of how to remove and install the system components with a list of all the special tools and torques needed for this
- Management of translations
- Production of the final development documentation as an after-sales manual in the languages required, including images in the foreign languages
- Personalized preparation work
Benefits
The respective end customers (OEMs) were promptly provided with personalized after-sales manuals. A qualified concept was also developed which allowed the manual to be translated into the languages required with cost and time savings. Using a content management system with multi-client capability, optimized management of translations and specially gained know-how resulted in lower costs while also improving content quality and continuity.
