Design of new transport protection concepts for turbine components

Sectors: Energy
Category: Engineering
Process: Development
Introduction
To protect gas turbines from damage during transport, an internationally renowned constructor of plants and power plants is putting extensive safety precautions into place. These need to be optimized on an ongoing basis. Intelligent design protection concepts are needed in this context to protect moving parts, some of which weigh several tons, from colliding with other components.

The customer tasked IndustrieHansa specialists, who had been recommended for the job on the basis of their proven expertise in constructing fixtures, with developing these concepts.

Solution: Design of new transport protection concepts for various turbine components based on specified points of attachment and a small installation space.

Puncture points
  • Production of concept
  • Design of fixture
  • Production of parts lists
  • Calculations for fixture
  • Writing of operating instructions and documentation

Benefits
Particular attention was paid to the use of existing apertures and possible supports when designing the protective concept. All protective parts can be removed with ease after transport and only slightly delay the assembly processes which follow transport.
