Introduction
A south German production company from the aircraft industry wanted to increase the efficiency and economic viability of production in the context of increasing output for its "Keel beam" assembly. The company works on the development and production of aircraft structures based on metal and carbon fiber composite materials.
A team from IndustrieHansa, which had previously proven its great expertise in this line of work in previous projects for the customer's affiliated groups, was tasked to produce appropriate analyses and recommendations for optimization.
Solution: IndustrieHansa experts analyzed the current status and put all previous processes through their paces. It used the results obtained to produce proposals for saving time through redesigned processes and to increase flexibility.
Puncture points
- Observation of how materials are provided
- Recording of provision processes in assembly
- Analysis of assembly work processes
- Recording of component transport activities between workplaces
- Calculation of the specified time for assembling the components
- Redesign of production orders including the specified time
- Reduction in rework
Benefits
By optimizing assembly times and workplace design, the experts from IndustrieHansa managed to save capacity by signigicant cutting staff levels. The assembly process was improved once more by working with design and production to continually reduce rework. Redesigning workplaces and moving activities into other assembly areas also enabled production to respond more flexibly to new orders.
