Powertrain evaluation for wind turbines

Sectors: Energy
Category: Engineering
Process: Development
Introduction
A company from northern Germany, with more than two decades of experience in developing and producing wind turbines, needed professional assistance in calculating problems relating to structural and blade dynamics. Given the high dynamic loads which wind turbines have to withstand, this is an important job that affects the drive shaft, gearbox, generator shaft and of course the generator itself.

IndustrieHansa satisfied the customer's requirements in terms of the specialist know-how needed and was tasked with undertaking the necessary analyses for the design of wind turbines.

Solution: Analysis and calculation of problems relating to structural and blade dynamics using the finite element method (FEM) to assist with the design of components in the drive section of wind turbines.

Puncture points
  • Evaluation of blade dynamics in the wind tunnel
  • Analysis of blade's natural frequencies
  • Calculation of relative oscillations
  • Consideration of flexural vibration using FEM
  • Consideration of the drive section in terms of structural dynamics
  • Involvement in the configuration and selection of journal bearings and gearbox

Benefits
The many years of experience our employees have gained in structural and blade dynamics were reflected in the qualified calculations. These help the customer in evaluating his designs, assist him in selecting the right components and suitable materials for his plant, and greatly aid optimization of the design to achieve as long a service life as possible.
