Risk management for new power station builds

Sectors: Energy
Category: Consulting
Process: Development
Introduction
Given the considerable investment involved in building new power plants, great importance is attached to risk management even at the planning stage. This was the very reason why a prominent constructor of power plants in North Rhine-Westphalia decided to seek external advice and support so he could concentrate his own expertise and resources on the core tasks of development and production.

The company chose to work with IndustrieHansa experts as they had proven specialist expertise in this area.

Solution: Responsibility for consultancy, supervision and at times also project management for the design concept and introduction of a risk culture, risk management and the handling of day-to-day activities.

Puncture points
  • Support for carrying out analyses (e.g. post mortem analyses, deviation analyses etc.)
  • Joint assignment of procedures and methods for identifying risks and opportunities, such as risk catalog, risk categories, risk list (keyword: interacting risks), critical factors for success and suitable onset indicators
  • Consultancy and support for order-specific technical risk management and risk rating
  • Development of fall-back plans and risk reduction and avoidance strategies
  • Joint definition of key risks and additional risks
  • "Order-specific risk management" project management
  • Handling of risk reporting, including creation of risk diagrams
  • Definition of processes and structures (meeting cycles, levels of escalation and so on) for escalation management
  • Monitoring identified risks

Benefits
Risk minimization through the introduction of reliable risk management and a robust risk culture. Risk management support in everyday work and successive adaptation and further development. Giving leeway to the customer so that he did not have to commit capacities for this work and was able to use his own staff for core areas of work.
