Tolerance analysis in order to eliminate noise problems at steering gears

Sectors: Automotive
Category: Engineering
Process: Development
Introduction
The steering gear of a vehicle represents the link between driver and road. For clarification of noise problems a 3D tolerance analysis had to be carried out for a well-known automotive supplier.

Due to competence proven already in previous projects the customer assigned IndustrieHansa tolerance specialists.

Solution: Analysis and calculation of tolerance related deviations using the Monte Carlo method.

Puncture points

    • Verification of the tolerance data in the drawings with respect to clearness and completeness
    • Development of alternative tolerance concepts
    • Creating a 3D tolerance simulation model on the basis of CAD data and drawings
    • Consideration of temperature impact
    • Monte Carlo simulation in order to calculate tolerance related deviations
    • Contributor calculation in order to determine relevant parameters
    • Tolerance analysis in assembly status as well as during complete motion sequence
    • Verification of assembly feasibility of critical components
    • Development of suggestions in order to reduce deviations
    • Detailed documentation of simulation results

    Benefits
On the basis of the simulation results target oriented measures to reduce the tolerance related deviations and to eliminate the noise problem could be carried out within the complex interaction of individual parts.
