Weight management for cabin components in wide-body aircraft and military models

Sectors: Aviation
Category: Engineering
Process: Development
Customer: OEM
Introduction
Weight is a key parameter in any aircraft development project and must be taken into consideration right from the start. In order not to jeopardize development projects for wide-body aircraft and military models with regard to compliance with target weights and in order to better control future design modifications, a leading European aircraft manufacturer decided to establish a weight management process for cabin components.

As IndustrieHansa has far-reaching international know-how in the field of weight management it was assigned this work.

Solution: Development and implementation of a weight management process for the Cabin & Cargo units responsible for components and their suppliers. Also calculation of potential weight reductions and coordination of risk.

Puncture points
  • Weight analyses
  • Comparative studies
  • Advice on determining target weight
  • Development and implementation of a reporting process
  • Coordination and tracking of weight activities
  • Supplier support
  • Airline customer support
  • Moderation on weight optimization
  • Managing task forces and weight teams

Benefits
During the "Cabin and Cargo Customization weight management" project, the reporting and management of relevant weight data was standardized on the basis of know-how built up around the globe. As well as helping to improve the quality of weight transparency and traceability, the weight reduction measures coordinated by IndustrieHansa's weight managers also helped to satisfy the component target weights.
